HISTORY
In 1986 the institution was established by Philippe Moutardier in Coral Gables, FL as the First Institute of Gemology and Jewelry School of Florida, Inc. The institution is one of the first school's licensed in the State of Florida, and the oldest licensed jewelry trade school in the United States. In 2006,the institution transitioned under the leadership of Marc Thurn and attained the name Miami Jewelry School. As of February 2024, the Miami Jewelry School changed locations and is now led by Dr. Samanthessa R. Jacob, PhD, thus evolving into the Miami Jewelry Institute. For over three decades the institution has effectively trained students to become qualified jewelers and continues to strive to be a credible institute of learning.
EXCELLENCE, INTEGRITY, EXPERTISE, AND COMPASSION
The Miami Jewelry Institute believes in teaching with excellence and integrity. An intricate trade such as this one takes time, practice, trial and error to become a seasoned goldsmith. In jewelry making, learning the basis is only one aspect. It is the skill, expertise, proficiency of the instructor that makes a crucial difference. Our students receive hands on training in a workshop environment that mimics a professional environment and train with instructors that have a minimum of three years field work experience. All team members of the Miami Jewelry Institute are passionate about their field and strongly believe that the jewelry making process should not be rushed. Instead, we used various teaching methods and compassion to help students achieve their goals within the industry. Making us one of the few trade schools who is truly "dedicated to your success".
